Although the WPT commentators make me wanna stick a steel pipe in my ear, this DVD is worth it just to see Gus read Antonio on one hand.

    Quite enjoyed it

Right away, when you note that this is a WPT event, the amateur poker player can comprehend that a great deal of instruction will vicariously be offered. This particular final table, however, is a contrived event. Paul Darden, Devilfish, The Magician, Gus Hanson, and Phil Laak were brought in for the purposes of a TV special because they’re crowd favorites. The only tournament part of the show did not include the professional. It involved the fans. The winner of the viewer tourney was given a spot at the table. Sadly, the nice kid is left out of the DVD’s cover shot. He does pretty well though given the sharks swimming around him. My sole regret is that we don’t get to see enough of the Devilfish. As for “The Unabomber” Phil Laak, this guy is absolutely bizarre–at least to me. I cannot explain his behavior. We can only hope that Jennifer Tilly enjoys it. Here we are privileged with a hilarious shot of Hanson glaring at Laak and undoubtedly wondering what planet this fool is from after he repeatedly tries to rub The Great Dane’s head. Gus’s excellence is fully on display, and, as always, we learn from his brilliance. This DVD is worthwhile, but remember, this is a fictionalized event. They don’t even tell us what the pay structure is so I presume that it did not exist.
